SUKANYA Strikes Group 3 Gold in Fred Darling Triumph
SUKANYA Strikes Group 3 Gold in Fred Darling Triumph
Our exciting three-year-old filly SUKANYA delivered a standout performance to land the Group 3 Dubai Duty Free Stakes at Newbury Racecourse on Saturday 18th April.
Contesting a competitive field of 14 runners over seven furlongs on good ground, SUKANYA produced a decisive late challenge under jockey David Probert to defeat the well-fancied favourite Touleen by three-quarters of a length.
Held up towards the rear in the early stages, she travelled strongly before making smooth headway approaching the final furlong. She was switched into clear running and showed a sharp turn of foot to surge past the leader inside the final 110 yards, pulling clear to secure a commanding victory.
This success represents a significant step forward for the filly, trained by Jack Channon. Marking her first win in group company and Opulence Thoroughbred's second success after Royal Fixations heroism in the Group 2 Lowther Stakes last season.
Speaking after the race, Channon highlighted the regard in which the filly is held, stating:
“She is a very good filly. My two year olds were very backwards last year, but she was always the stand out. She put in some really good performances in behind some very good fillies. She was an unlucky fourth behind Precise in the Prestige, she finished second to Diamond Necklace at Leopardstown and then she was a bit over the top in the Rockfel.
Her work has been exceptional. These last two weeks, anyone that has listened who’ve I told that this won’t be out of the three. She is high class and she has got a devilish turn of foot. She has beaten the third favourite for the 1000 Guineas on merit today"
Despite no concrete race plans in the near future, extending to the mile trip seems no concern off the back of Saturdays performance, and the filly holds an entry for the Irish 1000 Guineas, for which she has subsequently been shortened to 10/1.
Congratulations to all of our wonderful owners on what was an incredibly memorable performance, we very much looking to seeing where she will take us this year!
