Our Yearlings for the 2023 Season

We have selected ten outstanding yearlings for the 2023 season, working with the best to find those with potential to become top performers on the track.

Roger Varian

FOREVER NOAH - DARK ANGEL ex POPPET’S PASSION

We selected only one at Goff’s, this good-looking colt by DARK ANGEL ex POPPET’S PASSION. Athletic with a swinging walk, he looks every inch his Champion sire (albeit not grey!). He took to pre-training very well and has since settled into training with Roger Varian, looking very light on his feet. He has great potential and looks like a mid-summer prospect for next year.

Dark Angel ex Poppet’s Passion is a very likeable colt. He is well-grown, medium sized, shows a very good attitude to his work, and he is naturally athletic. It is early days of course, but he gives us a very positive impression at this stage. - ROGER VARIAN

FLAVOUR MAKER - PROFITABLE ex MAY DAY QUEEN

In looks and pedigree this colt is all speed. He is a sharp, racy individual with a lot of strength and looks the spitting image of his sire, PROFITABLE. He will likely be an early type, and we should hopefully see him on the track early to mid-summer.

"May Day Queen ex Profitable is a neat, well-grown individual. Built for speed, he has got a very strong quarter and thigh. He shows a very good attitude in his work, and he is progressing nicely." - ROGER VARIAN

Ed Walker

NIGHT OF THUNDER ex POLAR CIRCLE

This colt had an outstanding action when we saw him at the sales, and this has carried through to his training, where he has been highlighted as having a willing, genuine character with a fantastic movement.

"He’s a really lovely colt, very strong and a good size. He’s done really well since the sales and looks very well put together with a huge, strong back end and a good deep girth. He has all of the things we look for." - ED WALKER

DEVOIR’S CHOICE - TEN SOVEREIGNS ex TRACING

This striking colt has all the looks and the action. By TEN SOVEREIGNS and out of a winning GALILEO mare, he has speed and pedigree on his side with all the makings of a top performer. He caught our eye immediately - a scopey, athletic individual with an impressive presence about him. It’s hard not to be excited by him!

TEN SOVEREIGNS - The best son of NO NAY NEVER!

ANDREW BALDING

URESHII - TOO DARN HOT ex MARGARET’S MISSION

We were particularly keen on this strong individual, who is out of a winning mare and half-brother to Group 3 and Listed winner, SENSE OF DUTY. He already looks promising in his work in training and has the potential to turn into a top performer. His physical suggests he will grow to be a cracking three-year-old in the same manner as his half-sister.

ARCTIC THUNDER - NIGHT OF THUNDER ex AL KIRANA

The trade was extremely strong in Book 1, but this colt was at the top of our list and we were delighted to be able to secure him. He has a cracking action with great flexion, and looks remarkably quick in his paces. He is by NIGHT OF THUNDER, who is having a fantastic stallion campaign with sprinters such as HIGHFIELD PRINCESS, Europe’s highest-rated filly or mare, as well as SUESA and THUNDEROUS. An athletic, strong-looking type from a strong family, he ticked all the boxes for us!

Stuart Williams

SIOUX NATION ex MARY MCPHEE

This colt looks an exceptionally strong individual, a real forward type with a great frame and a remarkably powerful hind end. His pedigree and physical are all speed and going by his sire’s success with Stakes winners in his first season, this colt looks like one that will dominate on the course next year. He also has a great family line - his grandam is the half-sister to 7-time Group winner ATTRACTION.

George Boughey

PHOENIX PASSION - TOO DARN HOT ex SOUVENIR DELONDRES

This was the most expensive colt out of the those we purchased, but worth every penny when you take his family into account: out of a Group and Listed winning dam, and half-brother to Group and Listed winner DR ZEMPH, who took second in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes. He looks the perfect sprinting type, sharp and compact with strong quarters that will grow into a cracking type with time.

Michael Bell

SOLDIER CALLS ex WARM WELCOME

We were drawn to this elegant filly because of her great physical and fantastic action. She is exceptionally light on her feet and looks a strong, well-bodied model from the same family as 107-rated Listed-winner JULIETTE and by exceptional two and three-year-old SOLDIER’S CALL.

We were delighted to purchase her for only £58,000. This filly descends from a Classic-winning line from a family of proven broodmares which also gives her potential for breeding from later down the line.

George Scott

MELANIES JOY - TIME TEST ex HEADING NORTH

This quality colt has great power behind, good bone and plenty of scope. Trainer George Scott was equally impressed by him and we subsequently formed a new partnership which will see the colt trained at George’s Eve Stables.

He looks the mirror image of his dual Group 1-winning sire, TIME TEST - the Leading First Season Sire by Black Type Winners.

“TIME TEST blew away the opposition at Royal Ascot as a three-year-old. Speed and acceleration were his main assets.” – Roger Charlton
