Marchogion Impresses with Commanding Chester Victory

Marchogion produced a dominant display to land the Harrison Handicap at Chester on Saturday, 30th August. The three-year-old colt, trained by Andrew Balding and ridden by P. J. McDonald, took full advantage of a handy position in Stall 1 before powering clear in the closing stages to win with plenty in hand.

Run over six furlongs, Marchogion, was always prominent on the inner rail. McDonald pushed his mount along approaching the home turn, and once in the straight the response was immediate. Striding out strongly, the son of Mehmas quickly settled matters and crossed the line three and three-quarter lengths clear of Miraculous, with the William Haggas trained Showering a further neck back in third. The winning time was recorded at 1 minute 11.32 seconds.

This victory marked the third win of the year for Marchogion, and it was fantastic to see him put the disappointing effort last time out in the Shergar Cup Sprint behind him and respond in such a professional manor. He has been an incredibly consistent type, who looks like the type that hasn't reached the top of his ceiling and should have plenty of improvement to come.

Off the back of his success, he has been catalogued as the standout lot in the Tattersalls Online Sale. He is Lot 71 and more information can be found by clicking this LINK.

MARCHOGION wasted no time getting back on the up with an impressive success, making full use of his draw and nipping around the final bend efficiently to quickly secure a decisive lead over a couple that ran wider; close up, led early in straight, drew clear final 1f, won readily; he's had excuses for a couple of his flops this year and his overall profile is encouraging for top yard, though the handicapper will likely have a big swipe after this.
