Captain Harry Commands Haydock in Handicap Company

CAPTAIN HARRY took a commanding step forward in his career with a stylish and determined victory in the Eurocell ‘Grow With Us’ Handicap at Haydock Park. Trained by Andrew Balding and ridden by the experienced P J McDonald, the three-year-old gelding overcame trouble in running to land the 7f contest with a strong late surge, confirming himself a horse firmly on the upgrade.

Since sporting the visor in recent runs, the Son of Soldier’s Call showed newfound focus and maturity. After settling towards the rear of the eight-runner field, he was switched wide for a clear run and responded instantly when asked. Despite meeting traffic inside the final two furlongs, Captain Harry knuckled down well and drove through a tight gap to reel in the leaders and win by a length, clocking a time of 1m 27.93s on good ground.

He remains a solid prospect for the rest of the season, with the options to target the lucrative Racing League, or other lucrative handicaps at EBOR festival.

Congratulations to all connections.

improved further to get off the mark after 7 weeks off, the stable continuing in rude health, though he was fortunate to collect considering the amount of trouble that the runner-up found; held up, headway 2f out, led approaching final 100 yds, ridden out.
