Black Type Breakthrough for Sukanya

Sukanya took a big step forward in her career on Saturday, finishing a strong second in the Ballylinch Stud Irish EBF Ingabelle Listed Stakes at Leopardstown. The two-year-old filly, showed plenty of fight over the seven-furlong trip and came away with a hugely valuable result for our wonderful owners.

Always in touch with the leaders, and with a strong gallop from the start, Sukanya was asked to go about her work two furlongs from home and briefly hit the front inside the final furlong. She kept on well all the way to the line but was caught late by Diamond Necklace (IRE), who went on to win by just over two lengths. Even in defeat, it was a run full of promise and re-inforced she is very much a filly on an upward curve.

The performance means she has now earned black type as a juvenile – an important achievement for her pedigree and future value. Black type is awarded to horses who finish in the top three of Listed or Group races, and having that next to her name as a two-year-old is a major boost.

Her efforts didn’t go unnoticed by the handicapper either. Sukanya’s official rating has been lifted from 94 to 98, opening up and array of opportunities as we approach the end of the season. With her mark on the rise and black type secured, she’s established herself as a filly to keep a close eye on for the rest of the season and beyond.

It was fantastic to have so many owners in attendance on the day, and we look forward to seeing this fantastic filly progress further!

SUKANYA ran at least as well as last time, picking up some valuable black type, but was better placed than most the way things panned out; chased leader, ridden early in straight, led briefly entering final 1f, no match for winner.
