Purchased from the Arqana Breeze Up Sale in Deauville - the premier breeze up sale for buyers world wide. Previous stars include the Roger Varian-trained ELDAR ELDAROV and SAKHEER.
This was a filly that we liked more and more every time we saw her. She particularly stuck out to us in the breeze, delivering a quickly run performance, travelling fluently with a very strong finish. Out of a STARSPANGLEDBANNER mare and by CALYX, the fastest son of KINGMAN, you can expect her to be quick, and she was certainly eye-catching about it. Physically she is very pleasing, as a tall, scopey filly with powerful hind quarters and a fabulous walk. She has a cracking attitude too, unfazed by the busy sales environment.
This is a very interesting filly. She has a great walk on her and is very athletic, but is quite strong-minded and I liked her outlook. She reminded me of a lot of great race mares that are almost colt-like in her appearance and disposition.
Pedigree
Her sire, CALYX, had the same honest, gutsy attitude - a trait often passed down by KINGMAN, who is well-known for his even-tempered offspring. CALYX’s career was cut short by a career-ending injury that occurred during his only defeat, whereby he only just managed to hold on for second behind HELLO YOUMZAIN. He had raw speed that saw him win all three of his starts prior to this, and his early retirement to stud was widely lamented. His impeccable breeding, however, lends him well to the job and he is expected to rank highly in the first season sire lists. Already he has had a very impressive winner in PERSIAN DREAMER, who looks an exciting Royal Ascot contender, along with CLASSIC FLOWER, who has won both of her starts already.
DARA’S GIRL has already impressed as a broodmare, producing the winning SIXTEEN ARCHES from only her second foal, who took second place in the Group 2 San Clemente Stakes in Del Mar last season. Her mother, and our filly’s grandam, is the seven-time winning sprinter DON’T CARE, who has produced four winning progeny. Most notable is the Roger Charlton-trained TOURNEDOS, who won the Group 3 Molecombe Stakes at two, and progressed on again to win two further Listed races at three and four.
