Sourced from the prestigious Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale, this colt immediately stood out as a high-class individual. A strong, athletic type with an imposing presence, he breezed impressively in a highly competitive time. His balance, fluency of movement and natural athleticism set him apart during our inspections, while his pedigree only adds to the appeal. He is out of a Group 3-winning mare who has already produced two winners from two runners, and with HAVANA GREY as his sire, there is every reason to believe the mare’s stock can reach an even higher level with this colt.

We went to this sale looking for a potential Royal Ascot type, and this colt ticks all the right boxes. His combination of strength, speed and precocity suggests he is a natural early-season performer with the pace and quality required for the major juvenile targets.

He was consigned by Longways Stables, a consignor with an outstanding record of producing top-class breeze-up graduates, including GEWAN, FLORA OF BERMUDA and AL RAYA. It is a roll of honour we hope this colt can add to in the seasons ahead.

 

Pedigree

The sire of our colt, HAVANA GREY, needs little introduction as the leading first and second season stallion in 2022 and 2023. He has sired an incredible 28 Stakes winners and 14 Group winners from his first four crops, and has become renowned as a top producer of Stakes two-year-olds. A classy two-year-old himself, he won three Stakes races before taking a close second in the Group 1 Prix Morny and then again in the Group 2 Flying Childers at Doncaster. At three he got his Group 1 victory in the Flying Five Stakes in what was a thrilling battle against SON OF REST and SIOUX NATION. He has already produced a son that out-ranks him on form, with the undefeated two-year-old VANDEEK, who last year took multiple Group 1 victories in the Prix Morny and Middle Park Stakes, and holds an outstanding 63% winners to runners ratio. 

On the dam’s side is a deep page starting with the Group 3-winning CHARLINE ROYALE herself. She placed twice at Listed level as a two-year-old before striking on her first start as a three-year-old. She holds a 100% strike rate with her runners to date, including a smart looking sort who won impressively on back to back starts last season. She descends from a quality mare in ROYAL MAJESTIC, who is a proven producer of black-type, with three Stakes horses and five winners from seven runners. It’s an impressive legacy and demonstrates the quality of the family line that our colt hails from.
