It’s not often that we buy a two-year-old in training, but we couldn’t pass on the opportunity of purchasing KODI LION - a tall, imposing colt that came highly recommended to us by his own trainer, Charlie Fellowes. We were equally impressed after watching his superb run on debut, showing real talent that day when taking third, with only his lack of race fitness stopping him from taking the victory in full.
He is a strong, masculine type by KODI BEAR, and is one that looks as though he will make up into an excellent prospect with a bit of time. He comes from good stock as the descendant of 103-rated Group performer TAKRICE, bred by Shadwell, and is of the same KODI BEAR - LILBOURNE LAD breeding cross as 106-rated EVER GIVEN, who last year beat OSCULA in the Listed Surrey Stakes. His Gr.2-winning sire is only in his third year at stud, but has already gained a reputation for being a producer of good looking, athletic two-year-old types that have more than enough scope to progress on at three. Indeed he has had seven stakes winners already, including multiple Group winner at two and three, GO BEARS GO.
We have been on the lookout for a horse to put in training with Charlie for some time, having watched him grow more successful year on year with 15 Stakes wins to his name, and it was a stroke of luck that KODI LION came up for sale at the right time. Charlie was very keen to keep the colt within his ranks having seen his potential at home, and we were delighted to secure him at excellent value!
