Bay Colt

Out of a NATHANIEL mare crossed with miler KAMEKO, this scopey colt looks a Classic type in the making. He is very well put together and looks a strong, athletic individual with the same robust build as his record-breaking sire. He moves very nicely, showing signs of a good turn of foot in the pieces of faster work he has done at home, and physically he is taking training very well, staying sound with a great attitude to his work.

“He had a lot of presence at the sales and is a very correct, good moving horse with a lot of quality. Being by first season sire KAMEKO, who himself is by KITTEN’S JOY, he should fit the bill for a lovely 6-7f horse in early summer with scope to progress on as a three-year-old next year. KITTEN’S JOY has proven to be a very good sire of sires and we are hoping the KAMEKO can go on and do the same, and this colt looks to have the a lot of the same quality.” - Jack Channon, Trainer

Pedigree

He is the first foal of the winning mare LIGHTENING DANCE, who was a useful performer who made a promising start at three years old by securing her first victory on her second career start. Triumphing three times in total over 10-12f on the flat with Amanda Perret, she then moved to Northern jumps trainer Donald McCain’s yard, where she also scored over hurdles at Southwell. She placed 10 times over both codes and ran to a rating of 108 over hurdles. She descends from an impressive family of proven broodmares, and is herself the half-sister to two black-type performers, including Group 3 winner LIVE CONCERT, who totalled £1.5 million in prize money with eight wins and 10 places throughout his career in Japan.

Physically, KAMEKO was a solid type that had great depth but lacked a little length of rein, and this colt is almost identical in the stature of his record-breaking sire. A progressive miler at two, he secured his first Group 1 in the Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes before gaining Classic success on his first start at three. The fastest 2000 Guineas winner in history, KAMEKO surprised everyone with his speed, having looked very much a ten furlong horse up until that point. Named after the Japanese word for Tortoise, KAMEKO was by no means slow and he repeated his Group success in the Group 2 Joel Stakes at Newmarket on his penultimate start.

“He has got a fantastic cruising speed and the ability to quicken more than once, which very few horses have.” - Andrew Balding on KAMEKO

Now standing at the reputable Tweenhills, KAMEKO had an exceptional first book of mares that saw his first foals prove very popular at the sales. They were just as impressive as yearlings too and have been tricky to buy because of this,  averaging over four times his stud fee!
