Grey Gelding

Addison Grey has led us to victory on three of his six starts and we are delighted to have kept him in training for a further year as a smart, lightly raced gelding that will take us to the big festivals over 6f. He has thrived over the winter to become a remarkably strong, well put-together horse.

Last year saw him follow up an excellent win on debut with a further Novice victory won by an exceptional 17 lengths, next seeing out the Grey Horse Handicap at Newmarket in style. He has a truly exciting season ahead, with our sights set on the Wokingham Stakes at ROYAL ASCOT and the Stewards Cup at GLORIOUS GOODWOOD.

"Addison Grey has really strengthened and matured over the winter, I am delighted with him. With his rating of 92 we will consider all options over 6f. All top end handicaps will beckon but I am keen to aim him at the Wokingham Stakes and the Stewards Cup, and hope that he could keep showing improvement throughout the coming season." - Clive Cox, Trainer

Pedigree

MOON SONG hails from top breeding operation Cheveley Park Stud, producers of PERSUASIVE and INSPIRAL, and 40 something Stakes-winning/producing broodmares amongst their stock. The grey mare won two of her starts for trainer Clive Cox and has gone on to promise big things as a broodmare with two winners from two runners of racing age. Her own dam had similar success as a broodmare, with four winners from four runners, and is the half-sister to Group 3 Brigadier Gerard victor CAPTAIN COOK, a 108-rated gelding who went on to have further Group success in Australia. Her other siblings include stallion EVASIVE, Group-winner at two years old, and CANTAL, exceptional dam of multiple Stakes winners MOLATHAM and PERFECTION.

The sire of our colt, HAVANA GREY, needs little introduction as the leading stallion of the first, second and third crops in 2022, 2023 and 2024 respectively, and the sire of an incredible 28 Stakes winners and 14 Group winners from his four total crops. With a 65% strike rate with his progeny and the highest producer of Stakes two-year-olds world-wide, he has gone from strength to strength on the stallion leaderboard. A classy two-year-old himself, he won three Stakes races before taking a close second in the Group 1 Prix Morny and then again in the Group 2 Flying Childers at Doncaster. At three he got his Group 1 victory in the Flying Five Stakes in what was a thrilling battle against SON OF REST and SIOUX NATION. He has already produced a son that out-ranks him on form, with the unbeaten VANDEEK, who last year took multiple Group 1 victories in the Prix Morny and Middle Park Stakes and is now a stallion in his own right. VANDEEK was purchased at the very same sale as our colt in 2023, and was the co-sale topper sales at 625,000 guineas after a sensational breeze that landed him with the fastest time on the clock. We of course have big hopes for our own colt after his superb gallop out in last week’s 2024 sale.
